Leading Sydney jockey Nash Rawiller and Melbourne rider Peter Mertens have lodged appeals against careless riding suspensions incurred at Doomben last Saturday.
Rawiller, who did not seek a stay of proceedings, won the Group One Doomben Cup on German import Mawingo but was later suspended for 10 meetings for causing interference to third placegetter, Manighar.
Rawiller’s suspension has cost him the ride on Queenslander Buffering in the Group One Doomben 10,000 on Saturday and rules him out of the Queensland Oaks meeting at Eagle Farm on June 2.
Unless Rawiller wins his appeal which is likely to be heard next week, he will resume riding at the Stradbroke Handicap meeting at Eagle Farm on June 9.
Mertens was outed for eight meetings after winning the Group Three The Roses on the Clarry Conners-trained Invest.
His appeal will be heard on Friday.
Mertens’ suspension is due to expire on Sunday week, the day after he planned to ride Invest in the Group One Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm.
